One week ago, a friend posted her story on her Facebook wall. Completely devastated by this news from a deeply valued reader/supporter/friend, I asked the question so many others have asked, “What can we do for you K?” Her answer, “I want for nothing for myself".
Do you think we could raise money for Stand Up 2 Cancer?” Thus, Stand Up 4 Katalina (SU4K) was born.
All too often, we are asked to contribute in memory of a friend, such as the tragedy that struck our fandom friend Gisela (Mad4hugh) at Comic Con earlier this year. This time, Katalina is here, in our midst, and because of that, this project is unique.
We've dedicated this compilation to Katalina and made this an “All Request Compilation”: each author who signs up will be fulfilling a wish for Katalina—whether an outtake, a new one-shot, or the beginning of a new story. Each entry will be personally meaningful to Katalina.
Let’s pull together and surround her in the cocoon of our love and our support, all the best this fandom has to offer.
Each of us has been touched and devastated by the ravages of cancer, and in order to recognize this, we’re offering the opportunity to dedicate the monetary donations in memory of, or in honor of, a loved one’s battle. “Stand Up 2 Cancer’s" mission is to fund collaborative, translational cancer research to bring treatments from the bench to the bedside faster, and save lives now.”
So while SU4K is intensely personal, it also offers the vehicle for universal, broad-based support.
