So freaking good!!! Melanie Moreland is a favorite author for me. 
There's not a story she writes that I don't enjoy, but seriously, The Contract was by far my favorite! Richard and Katherine had me grinning like a Cheshire cat. These two couldn't be more mismatched which made their "relationship" even more amusing to me.
Richard is brash, obnoxious, overly confident, bad tempered, ill mannered, super swoony executive. With a heap of self centered and belligerent attitude thrown in for good measure.
Katherine is the opposite. Sweet, kind, hardworking, loyal, efficient, and generous to a fault.
When Katherine is transferred to work as Richard's assistant, she suffers his wrath of a lost promotion. Richard even goes as far to ridicule her lunches and clothing. What he doesn't know, what Katherine keeps from him and everyone else, is she saves every penny she earns, and sacrifices herself and well bearing to take of an expense for a relative. Totally giving of herself. Richard doesn't see her for who she is, doesn't understand why she is the way she is. And it seems to irritate him that he even wonders why it irritates him.
It's not until Richard comes up with a plot for revenge against his boss that he finally realizes how much he needs Katherine and what kind of person she really is.
And the plan...pretend to be a couple so he can show his new company what a changed man he is. After all, how bad could he be with someone as sweet and charming as Katherine on his arm?
Well, obviously hijinks prevail, you know it's bound to happen.
But aside from the humor of the situations they both wind up in, the story is very sweet without going overboard and giving you a toothache. Their relationship builds on their wit and growing mutual respect for one another. And we discover Katherine is not as sweet as we thought she was much to Richard's dismay, and growing fondness.
The story was packed full of awkward situations, humor, silliness, some serious heartbreak, self discovery, and real love, all being driven by the growing relationship.
The story completely flowed for me and I read it in one sitting.
Melanie Moreland always delivers on the romance intertwined with humor and some angst. A true contemporary romance. I always look forward to her stories because you always know you are going to walk away with a smile. And that's always the best to me. Stories that leave you happy and contented. 
She is my go to make me smile author.

Melanie Moreland lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of twenty-six-plus years. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.
Known as the quiet one with the big laugh, Melanie works at a local university and for its football team.  Her job, while demanding, is rewarding as she cheers on her team to victory.
