My 4 Star "All the Hugs" Review
One of the sweetest stories I've read this year, but no surprise, a Sydney Logan story will always make me feel like I've been hugged!!
Sydney Logan is one of my favorite writers. I love her writing style, characterizations, story lines, and her ability to bring drama to a story without going over the top and dragging you through unnecessary emotional roller coasters. Her stories just never call for it. They are always cleanly written, put together very nicely, and always always always have endings that I am more than satisfied with.
So when the offer to review Songbird came along, of course I sad yes.
Very sweet story with a touch of smexiness of two people who have their lives all mapped out. Goals, beliefs, wants, and dreams.
And you know what happens right, it all swirls away after a glorious weekend encounter that ends with 2 pink lines.
Now this is a story that could have gone off on the uber drama rodeo, but the author chose to create a character that is beyond insecure, a touch emotionally stunted, but has an inner monologue of a comedian. And it's these qualities that keep the story nicely balanced.
That is also how I describe Callie. Nicely balanced.
I will say though if Callie wasn't as funny as she was when talking to herself, she would be extremely annoying with her constant insecurities. But the author does a really nice balance keeping you from wanting to choke the life out of her at times.
Devin is just wowza. A true book boyfriend. Even though this was not the life he thought he wanted, he still tries to do the right thing by Callie, and truly starts to see there is more to her than meets the eye. he finds himself opening up more and more, a growing along with callie as they take mesured steps together on the new path their lives have created.
Overall a wonderfully romantic, humorous story that has you cheering for these two, crazy baggage and all.
As always, you can not go wrong with a Sydney Logan story.
