Their love is forbidden. But won't be denied... Can true love heal the deepest scars?

For Kat Lane, teaching inmates at a New York prison is her way of upholding the legacy of her beloved father, murdered fifteen years ago. But when new student Wes Carter walks into her classroom, she's shaken by the strength of her attraction to him. Carter is as handsome as he is dangerous, as mysterious as he is quick-witted - and he ensures people keep their distance. Yet vibrant Kat bypasses his defences and challenges him to reveal the real man behind the intimidating reputation. As their emotional barriers crumble, their inescapable but forbidden feelings cannot be ignored. But will Kat's discovery of Carter's role on the night her father died force them apart...or bind their hearts for ever?

A Pound of Flesh is a tale of loyalty, redemption and all-consuming love against the odds, introducing an irresistible bad boy hero...

My 5 Star "You Have Me" Review
“I need you.”
“Peaches…You have me. You always have.”

From start to finish I loved this story. A definite 2015 favorite!!

A powerfully written story of discrimination, injustice, sacrifice, determination, hope, second chances, passion, love and most importantly, finding your own self and the understanding of what love truly means.

The obstacles Carter and Kat had to overcome to be with one another was monumental.

Wesley James Carter had been in and out of jail since he was a kid. Now at 27, he sits in prison again, this time for a crime he did not commit.

“The pound of flesh which I demand of him Is dearly bought;
’tis mine and I will have it.

But is there is so much more to Carter than meets the eye. Be careful how you judge, you never know what sits just beneath the surface.

Kat Lane is haunted by the memory of her father’s brutal murder when she was just twelve years old. if not for a "mysterious" boy who pulled her away, Kat would have met the same fate as her father.

“She had no idea what it was about him. He was, after all, just like the other men she taught. Well, that wasn’t exactly true; he was a lot more combative and exceedingly more aggressive and — she winced at the thought — a lot more attractive, too. She tried hard not to see him in any other way than as her student, but it was too hard to ignore the man who drove her crazy…

Aside from the amazing story line, the banter was just brimming with the tension between these two making the story just a complete and huge WOW!

“Carter,” she whispered again, in one final attempt to stop what she knew in her heart was inevitable. “We can’t do this.”
“I know,” he answered, cupping the side of her face. He tilted his head, his mouth a luscious whisper across the edge of hers. “Just one taste. Just one. That’s all I want.”
And then his lips pressed against hers.

The story is a standalone. Solid ending and epilogue, so no cliffhanger, which I am not a fan of, that made me smile.

There will be follow-up novella for readers like me who want more Carter and Kat. As well as Max's story in book 2, An Ounce of Hope. Oh poor Max, you know his story is going to be good!!

You definitely want to get on this train!!

The flow was flawless.
The writing intelligent.
The characterizations brimming with color and texture.
A story of redemption, second chances, healing, passion, and love.
Sophie Jackson's debut was exquisite.
