The man standing over my left shoulder was tall. Deliciously tall. He towered over me, and that was saying something. At 5’11”, I was not a petite woman. I could look most men in the eyes and wasn’t bothered by it in the least. After all, petite women didn’t rise to the top in my profession. And there’d definitely been a time when I’d crested above the rest.

The tides had turned since then. I was no longer the woman on top. However, that was also to be expected in my profession. You were only the ‘it’ woman until the next ‘it’ woman came along.

I wasn’t complaining. The view from where I stood today might not be as good as it once was, but it certainly wasn’t a bad one either.

I knew people that would have killed to be in my position.
